The itawuli has created quite a buzz. This flat weave towel has a wow factor and personality the company Mungo did not quite expect. It is bold, bright and stands on its own. Maybe a little like the youngest child of a large family, fighting for independence and originality. Forging new grounds and seeking new horizons. Well, good luck itawuli we hope you make it, come back with tales of your adventures.
Inspired by the African landscape and heritage. Earthy tones and ethnic zig zag pattens create these bold and vibrant towels. itawuli translates to towel in one of South Africa’s official languages, Xhosa. The stripe detail that runs through the middle of the towel is a favoured pattern used in the traditional woolen Basotho Blankets. These blankets were initially woven in England and this stripe was originally a mistake through lack of communication, it however became very popular amongst communities in South Africa so was then incorporated into the design. Mungo has released 4 colour ways. Outeniqua Rust, Purple Heart, African Sunset and Brown Granite. One large Bath Sheet size will be sufficient to wrap and dry yourself with this beautiful towel. About Mungo: Mungo is a homeware textile company based in South Africa. Their mission is to create heirloom-quality woven goods with integrity in an open and transparent manner. |
